Become a Certified Hypnotist (CH) through the National Guild of Hypnotists

Celebrating 75 years of Professional Hypnotism. A practical, skills-first certification program designed to help you confidently conduct professional hypnosis sessions,
apply clinical hypnosis methods, and build a sustainable practice.

Training Hours: 100 total hours — 25 hours of pre-course home study + 75 hours of video & online / live training.
(Live training may be delivered via Zoom for online cohorts.)

What this course is about

The NGH Certified Hypnotist (CH) course is a structured, competency-based training pathway that teaches you how to
ethically and effectively guide clients using hypnosis for ordinary, everyday problems and performance goals.

  • Understand what hypnosis is (and isn’t), and how to explain it professionally to clients.
  • Learn how to create safe, repeatable sessions: pre-talk, induction, deepening, suggestions, and emerging.
  • Develop practical skills through guided practice and feedback.
  • Learn how NGH certification and membership support your credibility and professional growth.

What you will learn

  • Clinical Hypnosis foundations: session structure, rapport, hypnotic language, suggestion design, and client-centered delivery.
  • Inductions & deepening: multiple approaches so you can match different client styles and goals.
  • NLP essentials: language patterns, reframing, anchoring, and practical change-work integrations.
  • Ericksonian influence: indirect suggestion, utilization, metaphor, and conversational hypnosis strategies.
  • Applications: stress/anxiety support, habit change, confidence, performance, and more (within scope of practice).
  • Ethics & professional standards: safe practice, boundaries, documentation, and client communication.

NGH supports continuing education and offers training topics that include hypnosis, NLP, and Erickson training through its training ecosystem.

Training format & hours

This is a 100-hour program delivered in two parts:

  • 25 hours pre-course home study (structured materials and preparation).
  • 75 hours video and online / live instructor-led training (Zoom for online cohorts), including demonstrations and supervised practice.
Why the split? The home study builds your knowledge base so live training can focus on skills, practice, and real-world competence.

What you will receive

Course materials vary by program delivery, but NGH course packages commonly include manuals and supplemental resources.
The referenced NGH/ASCHI course materials include items such as student manuals, scripts, and additional training resources,
plus a 1-year NGH membership listed as part of the materials.

  • Student manuals and additional scripts
  • Supplemental study materials (books/videos/resources, where applicable)
  • Course forms and practice tools (client paperwork templates, session structure aids)
  • NGH membership benefits include publications (Journal of Hypnotism® and Hypno-Gram®), discounts, and other member services (per NGH membership details)

Business building (practice setup & marketing)

Knowing hypnosis is only half the equation. This program also supports you with practical steps to launch and grow:

  • Positioning: defining your niche and who you help
  • Client intake flow: booking → forms → session plan → follow-up
  • Pricing & packages: ethical, clear, and sustainable
  • Marketing basics: messaging, simple content, referral systems, and professional presence

NGH highlights opportunities to sharpen skills in hypnotism as well as marketing and managing successful practices via member education offerings.
